Making homemade taco seasoning is not only easy but also cost-saving. All you need to do is to combine all ingredients in one jar.

We make tacos now and then in the house. Sometimes we use ready-made taco shells, while more often we make them with homemade coconut tacos. However, I don’t remember when was the last time we bought taco seasoning. It has been so long since we started using homemade taco seasoning.

Making homemade taco seasoning is not only easy but also cost-saving. All you need to do is to combine all ingredients in one jar, shake it to mix them well, and then use a few tablespoons to spice up your tacos and that’s it.

You can then store the remaining seasoning in an air-tight jar and save it in your pantry for future use. I must warn you here. You may not keep them for so long. This homemade taco seasoning is so tempting that you may want to use it more often with minced beef, chicken, seafood, or even veggies. Not to forget that you can upscale your Mexican salads by adding a pinch of this seasoning to your salad dressing. Long story short, call this taco seasoning your best friend whenever you crave Mexican food!

What are the ingredients of this homemade taco seasoning?

You just need to put together a bunch of seasonings to make this taco seasoning at home:

  • Paprika: I call it the base of any Mexican seasoning. Smokey paprika is the best.
  • Ground cumin: usually makes a great companion to Paprika in Mexican dishes
  • Garlic & onion powder: never skip these two ingredients
  • Salt and pepper: essentials to all recipes
  • Dried oregano: adds an exceptional taste
  • Chili powder: although almost all recipes call for the use of chili powder, I keep it optional for those who do not like spicy flavors.

How to prepare taco seasoning?

Making this taco seasoning at home cannot be any easier!

  • Combine all the ingredients in the list below in a jar
  • Close the lid of the jar and shake it well
  • Spoon the amount you want and store the rest in your pantry.
  • You’re done!

When you want to use the tacos, try adding a little amount of water as you marinate the meat. For beef tacos, I like to add a small teaspoon of tomato paste.

How long does this seasoning last?

If you are preparing a small quantity, they won’t last long. Thant’s only because you will consume the amount fast. This taco seasoning is really tempting.

Prepare a large amount of this seasoning and store it in an air-tight container in your pantry. It will last up to 6 months!

How much homemade taco seasoning equals one packet?

Usually, store-bought taco seasonings come in a packet with 2 to 3 tablespoons of seasoning. They are used per half kg of meat.

However, this recipe is so rewarding. The following ingredients yield a large number of tablespoons allowing you to use each batch for a few more meals. Moreover, depending on your preference, you will be able to benefit from a more or less margin of this seasoning to control the flavor of your tacos.

What are this recipe’s variations?

  • Ground beef tacos
  • Chicken tacos
  • Beans tacos
  • Veggies Tacos
  • Seafood tacos
