While I was testing my homemade Bolognese sauce, it hit me that I am still buying ready-made pasta. Though many brands have developed multiple lines from regular, to whole wheat, quinoa pasta, and so on… nothing beats the taste of homemade pasta, especially if it is made of very few ingredients. And yes. This is what my kids are now addicted to since the day I tried this homemade pasta recipe.

Let’s talk first about why you should opt for homemade pasta:

This recipe is preservatives free

Think about it. How many food condiments do you have stocked in your cupboard? And for how long have they been waiting for you to use them. Now think why do they look in very good condition though you have purchased them a long time ago. Your answer is correct: preservatives. Now we all know that no matter how hard we try we will end up buying food and ingredients that include preservatives. Well, you are right. But how about you try to avoid some when you have such simple homemade pasta recipes to Do It Yourself?

You can eat freshly made pasta

Fresh meals, condiments, ingredients, come with benefits: Eating healthy and tasty food. You may not have a front or backyard to grow your fruit and vegetables per se but you can still prepare your ingredients at home and enjoy fresh homemade pasta.

It is a cost-saving relief

We will not debate the fact that a pack of pasta would cost a few pennies. But try preparing this homemade pasta and see how you can still save when you will stock your pasta in the refrigerator for future use. You will end up preparing the quantity of 3 meals for the cost of one ready-made pack.

How to make your own pasta?

Kneading manually or with a stand mixer?

It doesn’t matter. When I talk about homemade pasta, I know pretty well that some of you may not have a stand mixer, while others still prefer to go the hassle-free way and make use of such machines. No need to worry my friend. If you have a stand mixer at home, then you can use it. Just make sure you follow the right instructions below. I made sure to have clear instructions for both manual kneading or a stand mixer. And trust me, these simple instructions will make your life easy and you will end up enjoying the tastiest homemade pasta.

Do you need a pasta machine?

No, you don’t. Again, if you have it, go and make use of it to prepare your homemade pasta. You invested in a pasta machine to make your life easier and you have this right. But if you don’t, no worries. I do not as well. And I still do my homemade pasta quite often. My kids love it, and they simply enjoy helping me in the kitchen. At the end of the day, who does not love pasta with pesto sauce or a macaroni and cheese meal?

Here is a bonus, which is one of my best healthy recipe. Check out this video and learn how to prepare homemade ravioli!

Pumpkin alfredo in a plate

This recipe is easy, simple, tasty, and healthy. Made of 4 ingredients, why not do it yourself and enjoy a tasty homemade pasta, preservatives free, and serve it to you family members with passion and love.

Easy

What do you need to make your Homemade Pasta?

  • 4 cups multi-purpose flour (or 2 cups 00 flour strained along with 2 cups semolina)
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt

How to prepare your homemade pasta?

A- Homemade pasta with a stand mixer:

  1. Beat the eggs together then add the olive oil and mix them until blended.
  2. Slowly add the flour, one tablespoon at a time.
  3. When adding all the flour, knead it until you have a smooth dough.

B- Homemade pasta through manual kneading:

  1. Strain the flour (or flour with semolina) on a clean work surface
  2. Create a hole inside the flour
  3. Crack the eggs in the hole, and add olive oil and salt and mix them.

  4. Bring the flour to the egg mixture using a fork and mix gently. Add 3 eggs at the beginning, then add the fourth after checking the dough. The dough should not be sticky.

  5. When the flour is combined with the egg start kneading gently with your hand until the dough is smooth. This may take up to 10 minutes.

Pro-tips for a successful homemade pasta:

  • If needed, add a pinch of flour. We do not want the dough to be sticky.
  • If the dough is still too dry depending on the quality of the flour you are using, add small spoons of water, one spoon at a time. The dough should be smooth and elastic.
  • Kneading is the name of the game. The process is longer than that of a regular dough to get a springy and fluffy homemade pasta.
  • Wrap the dough with cling film and put it in the fridge for 30 min to rest before you start rolling it.

  • For the best results, roll it several times on a work surface dusted with flour to avoid air bubbles. Ensure the work surface is not wet to avoid any moisture.
  • Be aware that pasta dries quickly. Therefore, make sure to cut it immediately once you are done with the rolling process
